Jeans have long eluded us.
Since day one, we've kept a list of products that we want to meaningfully improve or altogether reinvent. And, since day one, jeans have been near or at the top of this list.
Our issue with typical jeans primarily consists of "long-haul" problems. Similar to our gripes with standard oxford shirts, we found that even in seemingly "higher quality" or heavier weight denim jeans, we were dissappointed with how the 100% cotton fabric blends wore down over time. In our view, we saw no reason there should be a compromise between looks, feel and durability.
Despite searching (and searching...) for the right fabric, we constantly came up empty. Slightly modified 100% cotton blends were too fragile, and overly synthetic blends looked, felt and even sounded wrong. Only when we started experimenting with Japanese cotton/nylon blends for our Iron Ox shirt did we realize we potentially had something for our long-elusive jeans.
After a few rounds of testing different blends of technical Japanese denim fabrics, we hit upon our white whale. 50% long-staple cotton provides the look, feel and drape of a classic pair of quality-made jeans. 30% cordura© nylon contributes the hard wearing durability we craved, with abrasion resistance 4 times better than that of comparable weight all-cotton denim fabrics. 18% polyester and 2% elastane round out the blend for freedom of movement and comfort. Since we decided to re-architect the classic 5-pocket jean, it only felt right to name our new fabric blend Blueprint Denim.
But cotton shrinks, right? Right you are, which is why we pre-wash/shrink our Blueprint Denim Jeans to size. This also adds a buttery soft texture to the pants.
Our Blueprint Denim Jeans are tough as hell, incredibly comfortable and made to last for years to come. We hope you enjoy wearing them as much as we enjoyed making them.
